Amongst all of those people is a man who has the ability to turn an ordinary photograph into a masterpiece. His name is Lukasz Jaszak, and he is 34 year old photographer and graphic designer. Jaszak has not had any formal training in his craft, but has had much success with it. “I actually loathe school buildings” Jaszak explained. “Once I was free to go, I ran away and I never looked back”. Though he is currently more absorbed in photography it is actually almost incidental that he has fallen into it. He started out doing a lot of photo-manipulations, album covers, and other promotional and non-promotional projects. He still does these things for his day job, but considers photography to play a larger role in his life. “I was doing this Photoshop stuff since forever,” Jaszak said, “And one day it became my job - simple as that! I was always doing my thing without giving a damn about the world, and one day when I felt comfortable enough I asked my friend in Germany, ‘hey, maybe i can design you a couple of album covers’, he said yes and I've been working mainly for him for almost 10 years now. Right now I am waiting for the same ‘special moment’ where I feel good enough about my photography to take it into another (commercial) level.” Until Jaszak has that next special moment you can see his work (both photography and photomanipulations) on jashackh.deviantart.com as well as his personal website jaszak.net. But don’t expect regular updates—Jaszak sometimes doesn’t do anything for weeks at a time, other times he has a surplus of work to show. He doesn’t believe in forcing himself to produce, and thinks creativity should flow naturally. “I draw my influences from many unexpected places,” Jaszak said. “And it usually strikes without a warning. I don't really like watching other photographers' works, I prefer to live in the dark and don't stress myself with some thoughts like, ‘Oh, it's been done before’ or ‘Shit, this guy is so good, I could never top this’, it helps me doing my own thing without stressing too much. I am not here to compete, that's for sure. Every now and then something influences me, but I can't point out any spectacular moment”. A true artist, Jaszak doesn’t look for locations to shoot his photos—he builds his own. He designs, builds, and paints all of his sets. He says that these photo shoots have been his favorite, and when you speak to him you can really tell that he is most passionate about the putting together of this package. “I hope it's going to grow into something more spectacular, too” Jaszak said. “I love to see how the thing comes together from the scratch, I love to hunt for props and spend half a paycheck on the drywalls, buckets of paint and wallpapers. Then you put the model on it and see how perfectly it works!” Depending on how elaborate these sets and the props used in them are the time it takes for a shoot to be completed varies. This week he plans to shoot his girlfriend as dressed as Morticia Adams form The Adams Family, but as far as the future goes Jaszak prefers to see what happens.
