Title

Women of Pakistan - Jazbah.org

Description

A while ago, I was looking for information on important Pakistani women, such as, the late Razia Bhatti and Begum Raana Liaquat Ali Khan. All I found were bits and pieces of writing in different places. I was disappointed that not much had been written or was readily available to people living in the West regarding such important personalities.

While it is easy to find books or other comprehensive resources on most Western achievers, we seldom read about heroes from any of the developing countries. This is not to say that heroes from these countries don't exist but that very little seems to be written about them. Even the most respected of scholars, such as Mohammad Allama Iqbal, and champions of human rights causes, such as Abdul Sattar Edhi, are virtually unknown to general Western public and to the world at large. Finding literature on women achievers from South Asian or Muslim countries is even more unusual. As a Pakistani-American woman, the latter is a cause close to my heart. I decided that instead of waiting for someone else to write about the many inspirational women from Pakistan, I would make an attempt to fill this information gap myself, even if it is in a small way. For who better than Pakistanis themselves to write about Pakistani heroes or heroines? I started building this Web site and a few like-minded people joined me. Together we are able to create this dynamic Web presence intended to recognize the great women achievers of Pakistan. We hope you enjoy reading about these great personalities and they leave you as inspired as we have been.

We will add new profiles periodically and expand the articles on women already listed. We welcome comments and suggestions. Send them to info@jazbah.org. Thank you again for visiting the Jazbah Web site.
