Description

Excerpted from the website:

Kicks4Kenya is an organization that started in 2007 to raise soccer balls and equipment for underprivileged children in Kenya. After traveling to Kenya in 2005, TJ Widbin had seen kids playing soccer. However, the kids were not playing with normal soccer balls but rather “homemade” soccer balls made out of rocks and paper sacks wrapped in rope. When he returned the states, he decided to join his two loves; sports and Africa, to help the less fortunate. Thus the idea for Kicks4Kenya was born. On June 10, 2007, TJ Widbin and Kylee Clover left for Kenya for a month long trip. Through the help of the Kansas City Wizards and several area people, over 40 soccer balls, and 35 jerseys were donated to 6 different schools and orphanages. Through their support, hundreds of children finally got the opportunity to play the game that they love with proper equipment. In Kenya, and Africa in general, soccer is more then just a game that people play for fun. Children are constantly having to worry about wether they will be able to eat that day, if they can go to school, or even if they will make it home safely. They never have time to just relax, have fun, and just be kids. That is, until they get a soccer ball. It is then that they come alive and forget about all their worries. So although we cannot change the world, Kicks4Kenya is dedicated to helping kids in Africa play the game that they love with proper balls and proper equipment. Through your help and support, we will be able to help thousands of kids play the game that they love, soccer.
