The Daily Record is the only newspaper in Ellensburg and is published Monday through Saturday. Newspapers during the week are published in the afternoons. On Saturday, it is published in the morning. There is no Sunday edition.
In 1909 Clifford Kaynor, a 22-year-old Seattle Post Intelligencer reporter, bought the paper, then called the Localizer. He and his partner, William Zimmerman, changed the name to the Evening Record. Kaynor continued as publisher until 1958, when he sold it to James McGiffin. In 1938, Kaynor changed the paper's name to the Ellensburg Daily Record. In 1973, it became the Daily Record to reflect its large coverage area. It went from letterpress printing to offset lithography in 1965 and to computer typesetting in 1968. It dropped its typewriters and went to computers in 1976.
