Lennar Corporation
F& R builders founded in 1954 by Gene Fisher and Arnold Rosen transformed itself into Lennar Corporation in 1971. Gene Fisher exited the company in 1956 and was replaced by Leonard Miller who defined the company’s guiding principles as quality, value and integrity. The company reinvented itself and renamed itself after incorporation as Lennar Corporation by combining the names Leonard and Arnold. The new corporation is located in Miami, Florida and its primary business is to build affordable, move up and retirement homes for different communities in nineteen different states of the United States under the brand names—Cambridge, Greystone, Lennar, NuHome, Patriot, U.S.Home, and Village builders. Lennar’s financial Services companies such as the Universal American Mortgage, North American Title Company provide a number of real estate related services. Lennar Communications provide high speed internet services and helps connect homes to the world.
Lennar’s Role in the Industry
Lennar Corporation is one of the biggest builders in the United States today. Its stocks are traded under the symbol LEN and it has an annual sale of more than 30,000 homes in 13 states. The company has expanded in leaps and bounds and has taken over more than twenty smaller builders in the last few years. The total earnings of this company for the year ended 2006 is over 30% of its previous year earnings. The company displays a healthy balance sheet and its debt to total capital ratio has been lowered from 42% to 32% in 2006. It has cash on hand of $1.2 billion. It has a lot of liquid capital on hand to acquire more companies. Lennar is doing as well or even better than its competitors. However, despite its project growth potential, the company stocks are just eight times its earnings.
