About LifeCapacity.org

Biocapacity projects re-establish Earth’s biological capacity. They are fundamentally wholistic and long-term. A culture that respects, restores and guards Earth's life-systems is an evolutionary necessity. Charitable Reciprocate Biocapacity Ltd was set up in May 2008 to advance a culture of ecosystem guardianship and help sustain Earth’s biocapacity. Lifecapacity.org is the website of "Reciprocate Biocapacity Ltd NZ", which is a registered charitable organisation in New Zealand.

This NPO facilitates ecosystem guardianship, using your Donations of Biocapacity Bonds. Biocapacity Bonds mitigate degraded biological capacity resulting from Ecological Footprints. . They are a wholistic medium of exchange, which links to carbon credits / mitigation of Carbon emissions via the voluntary carbon market. One Biocapacity Bond mitigates 10 tonnes of CO2 eq emissions and therefore equals 10 carbon credits. However, Biocapacity Bonds achieve much more. They most effectively sequester carbon in BOTH, soil and biomass. They always restore and maintain Biodiversity. Importantly, each biocapacity project also establishes useful natural resources for a future.

WHAT WE DO (in a nutshell)!

Biocapacity actions Ecosystem and Community Resilience.

WHO FOR AND WITH? Community!(...and its definition)

"A Community has a place and can identify the ecosystems that support it. A Community First protects the land Secondly uses the land in a way that maintains all its parts and processes."

Biocapacity initiatives (2 types) establish wholistic Community assets and permanent yield potential, where:

1) Ecological Afforestation and Silviculture:

1.1 Establish a 2000 t/hectare CO2 sink (av accumulation: 30-40 t/ha/yr)

1.2 Yield 3 - 10 m3/ha/yr craft, biochar and energy wood

1.3 Maintain a permanent forest canopy of over 100 eco-sourced veneer quality trees / ha

1.4 Restore, use and guard ecosystem processes, vitality and resilience.

2) Compatible Woodland and Agroforestry:

2.1 Establish sustainable organic C-sink farming (1-20 t CO2/ha/yr)

2.2 Yield crops, stock and 1 - 3 m3/ha/ yr craft, biochar and energy wood

2.3 Maintain a multipurpose woodland of ecosystem-compatible trees (NOT soil carbon depleting and fire-adapted plantation species)

2.4 Use and guard ecosystem parts and processes.
