Founded in 2003, Lightfleet Corporation is a privately funded high tech company located in Camas, WA which is a suburb of Portland, OR.

Brief Description and Introduction to Lightfleet

Lightfleet is an emerging Pre-IPO growth company that has invented the world’s first free space, broadcast, optical interconnect. (An interconnect allows multiple processors (or chips) to communicate with each other).

Lightfleet’s unique interconnect allows computer systems to utilize broadcast light to transmit data as opposed to the traditional method of wires. This revolutionary method eliminates the need for wires or switches and for the first time unleashes the true power and potential of parallel computing.

This invention, called CorowaveTM, makes systems smaller and more powerful while consuming far less energy.

Prior to Lightfleet, when a system became faster or smaller it consumed more energy. As technology struggles to keep up with consumer demand this trend is a crippling problem that will only get worse. In fact, with the rising costs of energy it will soon cost far more to supply the hardware with electricity than to purchase the hardware itself. (CIO Magazine recently predicted that in less than three years the cost of energy could be more than 22 times the cost of the hardware it supplies).

Lightfleet’s system uses far less energy while being faster and smaller, thus solving the problems of data storage today.

This interconnect, called Corowave, will first be implemented in a new type of server which will be manufactured on-site.

Press

Lightfleet has generated an incredible amount of interest from the Tech Community and a few samples of this press are listed below.

In one of the most significant advancements in system-level technology in many years, Lightfleet Corporation today announced it has developed and is bringing to market a new type of interconnect technology, based on multi-channel broadcast light, to simultaneously and continuously link the key elements within computing, communications and embedded systems. – HPC Wire

A homegrown discovery that will change the world. – OregonBusiness Magazine

Parallel processing systems using Lightfleet's patented Corowave optical interconnect technology can, for the first time in history, operate in a truly parallel fashion, mimicking natural computing systems such as the human brain. – HPC Wire

Lightfleet's technology, developed over the last four years, is attacking the delays that are inherent in the parallel processing used in today's supercomputing, which divides workloads among large numbers of processors. – InformationWeek

Gartner, a leading analyst firm, has named Lightfleet one of five “Cool Vendors” to watch in its 2007 Emerging Technologies Reports.
