- The exciting Australian lotteries would have not come about if not for the NSW Lotteries Corporation. It started with the passing of the State Lottery Bill on December 1930. This led to the founding of the State Lottery Office on 1931. However, it was not the best time to be jubilant since it was the year of the Great Depression. Cash was not as abundant and many people were unemployed during these times. Diseases were spreading due to the widespread poverty and hospitals were having problems on accommodating and servicing the sick. The lottery was the best way to generate funds for the States Hospitals while providing a bit of joy to the people.
