It all started on a fine spring day in 1998. I had caught a few nice keepers on a popular soft jerkbait, and was feeling pretty good about my angling prowess. A few more casts and a nice bass followed my presentation for several yards. Running out of room for the retrieve, all I could do was stop the bait and see what would happen. As the lure quickly sank out of site, the bass slowly turned and swam away. My first thought was...WHY? The fish obviously was considering eating the bait. Did it's profile not appear real enough? Did it fall away to quickly? Did the fish see the hook? My second thought was... WHY doesn't somebody make a bait that has a real baitfish profile, has great fish attracting action, and can be manipulated to fall in a very enticing manner at a low rate of decent? My third thought was...WHY don't I do it? Having limited funds I figured I'd have to do everything the hard way... myself. So I set out to learn the entire process of soft plastic lure manufacturing. My first couple of prototypes were pretty hideous, and even though I caught a few fish on them, they just were not right. Then one day the concept of the TUBEFISH hit me. My first prototype however crude, was immediately successful. I knew I was on to something good, I'd better file for a patent... The hard way of course! The learning curve was pretty steep! (For me anyway) Now that the dust has settled, we've secured a patent, started a company, built a web page, not to mention all the prototyping, mold building, plastic testing, color tweeking and on the water testing. (My favorite part!) No wonder it's taken three years! Thank god for the support and encouragement of my family. The final result is a fishing lure that's much more versatile than I had even imagined. Any way you can think of to present a soft plastic bait, the TUBEFISH IS DEADLY!
