Description
About Makana Ke Kai
Makana Ke Kai Outrigger Canoe Club was founded by six “old” surfers with a love for the ocean and appreciation of the Polynesian outrigger canoe. In November 1997, Buddy Adams, Dan Avina, Bob Bones, John Corning, Eddy Duval and Dave Hansen began paddling our malia canoe, the Manowale’a. Buddy Adams is the founding benefactor and named the club “Makana Ke Kai” – Hawaiian for “precious gift of the sea.”
With the help, inspiration and hard work of many others, Makana Ke Kai has grown into the club it is today, an ohana (family) that spreads the spirit of aloha to everyone.
MKKOCC is also one of over 25 member clubs of the Southern California Outrigger Racing Association (SCORA), an organization that sponsors racing, and a member club in the U.S. Canoe and Kayak Team (USCKT). We joined SCORA in 1999, and have alr eady made our name synonymous with our spirit of aloha! It is in this spirit that we invite all to join us as we paddle the ocean.
