Marc Simmons of Hartford, Connecticut, is a self-taught artist who works as an accountant by day and paints by night. He has been painting since 1979. Winner of the Kuriansky Foundation Award at the 16th Annual Faber Birren National Color Award Show, Mr. Simmons has exhibited at the Boulder Valley Art Council in Colorado, the Ashwell Gallery in Beverly, Massachusetts, and the New Britain Museum of American Art in Connecticut.

While viewing the exhibit in the Homer Babbidge Library, pay close attention to the dates for each piece, for chronological order is useful in demonstrating Mr. Simmons' development in terms of style and technique. For instance, his first painting, The Accountant: Picture Essays in Multiplicity will be included in the show as well as Rabbit by the Sea and Giraffe and Child, which were early attempts at painting the human figure.Marc Simmons Odyssey of a Self Taught Artist, one of Connecticut's most talked about self taught artist in 1996, His paintings depict stories of people along the way, scenes from things, and general celebrations of life. Odyssey of a Self Taught Artist Paintings by Marc Simmons depict contemporary religious painting, The Last Supper painted in acrylic in 1986, took four years to complete, five feet high by eight feet wide on canvas. The controversal girls on the beach and the last supper have been displayed together at the University of Connecticut Health Center with outcrys of removal. The Last Supper also was on display at the University of Connecticut Babbage Library and Real Art Ways in Hartford Connecticut.
