Title

Yakima Automotive Repair Shop: Master-Tune, Yakima's most complete auto repair facility.

Description

My name is Paul Richards. I have always had a fascination with cars. For as long as I can remember I have been involved with fixing, building, designing, racing, or dreaming about motorized vehicles. I have voraciously consumed any magazine tech article that ever gets in front of me.

I rebuilt my first go-kart engine in 7th grade and in high school shop class I rebuilt my first high-powered V8 with all of the latest go fast goodies. This got me started on a career path that never stopped. During high school and all through college I earned money to support my drag race habit by working in a gas stations and repairing other peoples cars. I was determined to get a degree as a Mechanical Engineer, but, I could not afford to go to the school of choice, so, I had to settle for a Civil Engineer Technology degree instead. I finally made it. After I graduated from college I went to work as an engineer building a nuclear fuels production plant at the Hanford facility outside Richland, Washington. I spent three hours a day commuting to and from work. This allowed me to do a lot of research on my Volkswagen Rabbit to see just how good of gas mileage I could get and still keep it practical to drive. Computer systems have always intrigued me, so I mounted a computer system in the car and tried many devices to see if they really worked. This rolling laboratory allowed me to gain a lot of practical working knowledge about gas mileage goodies and different computer control systems. When the project was complete I decided to follow my dreams and open an automotive Tune-Up Shop. It was a good move and I never looked back. Now nearly twenty two years later I still own Master-Tune (now Master-Tech), although it is much larger now, and in a different location.

I have built and raced several race cars, including a Super Comp rail dragster that I drove for several years. I am a certified ASE Master Technician and have taught several automotive classes at our local community college.
