Description

MediCare Ambulance Service Inc., owned and operated by Don Schueler and Judy Schueler, was created by the amalgamation of Lamont and District and Morinville and District Ambulance Services in January of 1996. Since that time we have expanded our operations to include Smoky Lake County, Athabasca County, Thorhild County, and the Town of Redwater. Due to this expansion we relocated our head office to Redwater Alberta, in order to be central to all of our contracted areas.

Mr. Schueler has been in the ambulance business since 1972. He started as a First Aider, a title which has evolved into the paramedic of today. His first ambulance station was in the Alberta Beach area, he then moved onto Mayerthorpe, Lac La Biche, Boyle, Elk Point, Smoky Lake, Radway, Saddle Lake, Vegreville, Two Hills, and Lamont. In 1978 Mr. Schueler saw the need for a better ambulance, rather than the old Hearsts that everyone was accustomed to. He took a 1978 van to Crestline Coach and assisted in the design of the first ambulance van for Alberta. It has been his goal to provide rural Alberta with the highest level of care possible, equivalent to that provided in the metropolitan areas.

In 1986 he saw a need to provide ambulance transportation between city hospitals where care could be provided in a cost efficient manner. Inter-Hospital Transfer Services was introduced to provide non-emergency, non-life threatening stretcher transportation for city hospitals. Mr. Schueler, with his son, Terry Schueler, and Russell Yohemas provided the services of 15 ambulances to city hospitals and health complexes.
