Title

Institute of Sisters of Mercy of Australia

Description

In the tradition of the foundress, Catherine McAuley, all Mercy foundations are entrusted with autonomy in their local affairs. This means that those on the spot are able, in fact they are required, to make decisions based on their first-hand experience. They support one another, but responsibility belongs to each local group.

In spite of the fact that there is no centralised authority, Mercy women throughout the world show extraordinary unity in spirit and purpose.

This unity of spirit and purpose has been strengthened since 1994 when Mercy International Association was established. One of its aims is to increase the Sisters' awareness and experience of their global interdependence and to promote solidarity amongst Sisters of Mercy.
