MICT : Myanmar Information and Communication Technology Park (Yangon)
Description
Establishing Myanmar ICT Park is very significant outcome of Government and private collaboration. A group of fifty private companies formed a consortium called Myanmar ICT Development Corporation which has invested for the development of Myanmar ICT Park (Software Park). This is the attempt to boost the software Industry, which has huge potential for the economy. For this new venture, government provides the land and infrastructure. Myanmar ICT Park was inaugurated on 21 January 2002 and 36 local and foreign companies took place with nearly 600 software engineers.
At the same time, Bagan Cybertech Company New ISP was established side by side with Myanmar ICT Park to facilitate the software companies for Internet Access and data communication services. Normally, Myanma Posts and Telecommunications (MPT) is the Myanmar Telecom Authority an sole services provider but Bagan Cybertech came out as another service provider for data communications. Bagan Cybertech's solution is V-sat Networks, which is the satellite communication links for the domestic as well as international. For domestics, it is known as the Myanmar Intranet, which has local content as well as foreign contents for education, technology, health, businesses, etc. of which can be requested by the customer. This is a very good start introducing iPstar Broad Band Network for the whole country.
Myanmar has singed the e-ASEAN Framework Agreement in November 2000 together with the other members of ASEAN, Myanmar as a member state of ASEAN has committed to implement the necessary steps according to the Agreement. The e- National Task Force was formed to monitor the implementation of the e-ASEAN Framework Agreement.
