Description
Founded in Cairo in 1994 during the United Nations International Conference on Population and Development, Migrants Rights International (originally formed as the "International Migrants Watch Committee"), is a membership organization comprised of experts and practitioners in the fields of migration and migrants' human rights; each bringing specialized knowledge and experience in the promotion of human rights of migrants. Members are affiliated with nationally and locally-based migrant groups, human rights organizations, trade unions, religious bodies, and legal organizations in different parts of the world.
MRI operates with the strong support of a network of migrant associations, church-based organizations, migrant workers unions, and non-governmental organizations working on migration in Europe, North America, Africa, Latin America, Asia and the Middle East.
