Description
Mos Def has just landed a role in Little Scarlet, an HBO movie based on Walter Mosley’s 2004 novel of the same name.
Though the movie is to be release via HBO Films, the company is hoping to release it in theaters through its partnership with Picturehouse. Jeffrey Wright, who also worked with Mos in the Broadway play Topdog/Underdog, will also star in the flick. Wright and Mos Def will play “Easy Rawlins” and “Mouse,” the roles initially played by Denzel Washington and Don Cheadle, in the 1995 film, Devil in A Blue Dress.
Roselie Swedlin and Debra Martin Chase will serve as producers, while Mosley will also be involved in the movie’s production. The plot centers around Rawlins, a janitor and unlicensed private investigator, and Mouse, a killer who assists Rawlins in solving his cases. The story takes place in Los Angeles after the 1965 Watts riots. Scared to look into the murder of a black woman in which a white man is suspected, white cops hire Rawlins to probe the case.
