Nanotechnology is the science of the very small - at the molecular and atomic level. A nano-meter is one-billionth of a meter, 3 to 4 atoms wide, or 1/100,000 the diameter of a human hair. Nanotechnology deals with materials and systems on the nano-scale that exhibit fundamental control over the physical and chemical attributes of molecular-scale structures and that can be combined to form larger structures. More simply, nanotechnology is the manipulation and combining of individual atoms in precise ways to produce a desired structure.
The objective of nanotechnology is to produce nano-size materials and systems that will revolutionize existing materials and even create a new generation of materials and systems for use in medicine, microelectronics, optical devices and in an array of products.
