Description

About The National Capital Authority

The National Capital Authority was proclaimed by the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia in 1989, the same year that the Australian Capital Territory was established as a self governing and separate legal entity.

The purpose of the National Capital Authority is to manage the Commonwealth Government's continuing interest in the planning and development of Canberra as the Australian National Capital.

The Australian Capital Territory (Planning and Land Management) Act 1988 provides for the Authority to prepare and administer a National Capital Plan. This plan is the statutory tool which underpins the preservation and future of the Capital.
