Establishment of the ASCC

The first meeting of the new Australian Safety and Compensation Council (ASCC) was held on 20 October 2005. The key role of the ASCC is to provide leadership and coordination for national efforts to prevent workplace death, injury and disease. The council will also work to improve national workers’ compensation arrangements, the rehabilitation and return to work of injured employees and provide advice to the Workplace Relations Ministers’ council on national directions. Two working groups have been established: OHS Working Group, and Workers Compensation Working Group.

About Us

The new ASCC met for the first time in Perth on 20 October 2005. The ASCC succeeds the National Occupational Health and Safety Commission (NOHSC). Like its predecessor, the ASCC comprises representatives from Federal, State and Territory Governments, the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) and the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI). Mr Jerry Ellis is continuing in the role of Chairman, assisted by Mr Bill Scales as Deputy chair.
