James is a professional landscape photographer living and working on the Isle of Lewis. Lewis is the largest of the islands that form the wonderful chain of islands known as Outer Hebrides, situated some 40 miles west of the Scottish Mainland, and often referred to as the "Islands on the Edge"
James, and his wife, Janet, established the Oiseval Gallery in 1992. The Gallery is situated in the crofting village of Brue, on the wild, unspoilt, and often stormy Atlantic coast of the Island. The gallery acts as the main outlet for his work, with a constant stream of visitors throughout the year.
James finds the wonderful quality of light, rapid changes of mood, and the incredible natural beauty of the islands a constant source of inspiration for his work. He still gets a tremendous feeling of exitement when he witnesses wonderful light flooding across the island landscape, with his camera's loaded and ready to use, and feels so priveleged to be able to work in such a remarkable place as the Outer Hebrides.
