Title

Abernethy Trust Ardeonaig Outdoor Centre - Loch Tay, Perthshire, Scotland

Description

Abernethy Trust Ardeonaig (pronounced Ard joe~nig, where in regular use the d may become silent and the joe runs into the nig) is located near Killin on an exclusive 20-acre estate looking out across Loch Tay to Ben Lawers, one of Scotland's highest mountains.

Ardeonaig means the heights of Adamnan. St Adamnan was associated with this area. It may be that Adamnan is his English name, his Gaelic name being Eonan or Eodhnan (pronounced Yo nan) from which Ardeonaig is derived. The Gaelic spelling of Ardeonaig was Aird-Eodhnain. St Adamnan was the 9th Abbot of Iona who died in 704 AD and he was a biographer of St Columba.

The main building is a former Highland shooting lodge, built in the 1930s by Mrs Price of Price's candles and gifted to the Abernethy Trust in 1984 by the Barratt family. Since then we have completely refurbished the property and developed excellent new facilities for visitors of all ages and interests.
