Title

panoguide - the guide to panoramas and panoramic photography

Description

panoguide aims to provide a free central resource of information and discussion about panoramic photography. Currently panoguide focusses on techniques for creating panoramic images using a conventional camera and "stitching" the images together on a computer. However we intend to broaden the information on this site to cover other topics and techniques in the VR photography domain.

How panoguide came about

In 1996 the beginnings of panoguide were just a page or two in a personal website. At that time panoramic imaging and "as-if-you-are-there" style panoramic image viewers were quite new. A lot of people started asking how the images were created, so in addition to showing panoramic images, the site started explaining how to create them. In November 1998 panoramic software reviews were added for the first time, and the number of reviews expanded gradually until the product reviews were removed in December 2004.

The name "panoguide" was originally just the name of a folder in the website and a convenient abbreviation of "panoramic guide". After someone said "you should see the panoguide site at ..." in the forums on dpreview.com, I decided to use the abbreviation as the name for the site in April 2000.
