Parker-Hannifin Corporation is a diversified motion control products manufacturer. Its products include fluid power systems, other related products, electromechanical controls etc. The corporation is divided into three segments- Industrial segment, Aerospace segment and the Climate &Industrial Controls segment. The equipment manufactured by Parker Hannifin has hydraulic or pneumatic systems inside. These systems help in movement of the equipments necessary for moving materials or controlling equipments.

Products

Fluid connectors, process instrumentation, climate control, hydraulic and automation systems are some of its industrial products. The main customers of the products manufactured are manufacturing, food processing and transportation companies.

Industrial

Equipments needed in industrial activities. Motion control systems and components and fluid systems and components are produced in this segment. These products are used in manufacturing, processing, packaging, transportation and such related processes. They are also used in various sectors like construction, military machinery, agricultural equipments etc.

Aerospace

The aerospace section is related with high technology field. It designs and manufacture products for aircraft, spacecraft and missiles. The clients of the aerospace section include commercial, general and military aviation. They also provide aftermarket support for the equipments.

Climate & Industrial Controls

This segment produces motion control systems and components for climatic modification. Transportation, refrigeration and air conditioning companies are some of the clients of this section. For long distance transportation these components and systems are very useful.

Parker-Hannifin Corporation is also into real estate business. It has Astron Buildings Group, which is into designing and manufacturing buildings. However, in 2005, the company was divested. It has also acquired another company named Rectus AG in 2007.

History

The company was started by Arthur L. Parker in 1918. In a truck accident the company lost its inventory and went bankrupt. Arthur again starts a business of hydraulic and pneumatic components. The business succeeds this time. In 1927, Spirit of St. Louis' historic first Atlantic crossing used Parker fittings. The company grows and the number of employees and the size increases at a fast rate. Till then Parker had defense contracts and produced equipments for the force. This created a problem for the company in 1945 when Arthur Parker died and the world war Ii began. Arthur’s wife, Helen Parker, initiated new developments and the company started manufacturing industrial products.

In 1957 the company started acquisition for growth. It acquired Hannifin. Hannifin had a cylinder and valve production business. It changed its name to Parker Hannifin. Then new division started appearing slowly.

In 1964, in a significant development Parker Hannifin stock trading started in New York Stock Exchange. It continued its journey and it entered the Fortune 500 listing in 1966.

Parker continued its growth with acquisitions and joint ventures in other countries. It acquired 58 companies till 2001. Its business reached 44 countries and the employee strength reached 48,000 in numbers.
