Playmarket is New Zealand's only playwrights' agency & script advisory service. We are at the heart of New Zealand theatre - our focus is the development and representation of New Zealand playwrights and their plays.
History
Playmarket was founded in 1973 to encourage the professional production of New Zealand plays. In its first eighteen months Playmarket licenced a total of 15 productions. By comparison, we currently licence around 250 productions of New Zealand plays each year, both in New Zealand and around the world.
Structure
Playmarket was registered as a non-profit making incorporated society in 1975. The membership of the Society meets annually to review activities, receive the annual reports and elect an executive. During the year the executive meets to determine policy, establish budgets and monitor the activities of the organisation. Playmarket is grateful for the funding support which it receives from Creative New Zealand.
