Description

Who We Are

Founded in 1991, the Philadelphia Neighborhood Development Collaborative (PNDC) is a joint effort by foundations, corporations, and government that are seeking to assist community development corporations (CDCs) in their mission to stabilize and revitalize neighborhoods. PNDC provides operational funding and customized technical assistance to select Philadelphia CDCs. Together, we seek to create thriving communities with decent and affordable housing.

PNDC has been a catalyst for the growth of community development in Philadelphia. Over the past decade we have channeled about $9 million in grants to CDCs that operate in neighborhoods with high levels of unemployment and critical shortages of affordable housing. Since the PNDC's inception, PNDC-supported CDCs have developed more than 1,900 housing units and more than 330,000 square feet of commercial/retail space and community facilities, including day care and community centers. In the program cycle beginning July 2001, PNDC's direct investment in 11 CDCs leveraged more than $66 million in commitments toward real estate production; increased and diversified real estate production and facilitated improvements to internal operations.

PNDC, which is located at the United Way of Southeastern PA, is supported by generous contributions from the Community Development Partnership Network, Fannie Mae Foundation, Ford Foundation, The Pew Charitable Trusts, Philadelphia Local Initiatives Support Corporation, Philadelphia Office of Housing and Community Development, PNC Bank, The Reinvestment Fund, Surdna Foundation, United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania, Wachovia Regional Foundation, and the William Penn Foundation.
