- I did not have a good feeling about this wine. The only “Trader Joe’s” label wine I have ever really enjoyed was the 2000 President’s Reserve Napa Valley Merlot, which is really good. I don’t know why I even picked it up, but I had 2 kids still sopping wet from swimming class grinding me about finishing up my shopping, and so I froze up in the aisle and grabbed the nearest bottle even though that selection was against my better instincts. And there were a lot of instincts in opposition: the back label says that the wine is from ASV, a custom label outfit in San Martin not known for great stuff. Plus it’s appellation California Syrah, which is not good. Syrah needs to be grown someplace cool - not the central valley or whatever spot in hell where these organically grown grapes originated.
