This is the only degree in the nation that focuses exclusively on Dr. William Glasser’s Quality School concepts and practices. Dr. Glasser is a world-renowned psychiatrist, educator, and author of several books including Schools Without Failure, The Quality School, and Every Student Can Succeed. In Dr. Glasser’s quality schools, the keys to effective education are learner-center instructional strategies and a strong student-teacher relationship built on trust and respect. Reduced discipline problems, increased parental support, and improved test scores are results that are achieved consistently in Glasser’s quality schools.
This degree program is designed for any individual interested in the education of special needs children in the K-12 setting. Five courses in the program provide a foundation in Dr. Glasser’s quality schools concepts and practices. In the five remaining courses, participants apply their new knowledge to create teaching strategies directed toward students with learning, emotional or physical disabilities. Topics covered include the etiologies of mild/moderate disabilities, lesson adaptations and modifications, team teaching, assessment methods, and current trends and theories in the field of special education.
Course content is presented through multi-learning modalities that include viewing videos of master teachers using course concepts and techniques, collaborating with your graduate faculty mentor and fellow students, and applying course content in your own teaching situation.
