Martin J. Quigley was a twenty five-year-old drama critic for a major Chicago newspaper in 1915 when he went to the D.W. Griffithís Theatre to see "The Birth of A Nation." He was so enthralled by this new medium and art form that he quit his job and started a publishing company dedicated to the Film Industry. He started publishing a weekly, EXHIBITORS HERALD, that year. By 1930 he acquired the other two major weeklies in the industry, MOVING PICTURE WORLD and MOTION PICTURE NEWS and merged them into MOTION PICTURE HERALD.
