- The word "rain screen" is descriptive of how the system works. Rainwater is screened away from the inner wall. The key to a Rain Screen System is that there is a suitable airspace behind the cladding for venting and draining. Any rainwater that may migrate behind the cladding runs down behind the tiles and exits through the drain holes at the bottom. Any condensation or frost build-up behind the tile will also be vented out though this airspace. Many exterior systems do not offer this airspace and are subject to total wall failure due to rusting and rotting.
