Description
Peter Koch, Joe Latina and Earl Tillinghast were. During a round of golf three years ago, they were discussing how frustrating buying cigars had become. They decided the best solution would be to combine their love of cigars with business and open a store designed for cigar smokers.
They chose not to make their store fit into an existing layout. After finding the right location, they gutted it and built Regency Cigar Emporium. The store was designed with three separate areas; the main sales floor, a smoking lounge and a mail order storage center.
If this was a cigar store, then cigars should be the focal point of the sales floor, they felt. As a result, the main sales floor is built around a walk-in humidor. Completely lined in Spanish cedar, it is Rhode Island's and the region's largest customer walk-in. Shelved on three sides and with a two-tier center island, the humidor holds over 95 lines and 450 styles of cigars. Two eight-foot high shelved upright units display over 20 sizes of bundle cigars and specials. The size of the humidor allows several customers to shop at the same time.
