Reinhard Wallcoverings came to life in 1935, when my father left home to get married. His father-in-law to be was a painter, and my father joined him in starting "Valentine & Reinhard Painting" in New Brunswick, NJ. One of my favorite "Dadisms" was his reply when his father asked what he knew about the painting business. "Not a thing, but I'm going to learn awful fast." He did learn fast, and developed a dedicated clientele of over 400 loyal customers.
In the 1950's Dad bought out his father-in-law, changing the name to "Reinhard Painting and Decorating" and continued to build his client base. He learned paperhanging from a fellow painter in the 50's. His dedication to quality work was the foundation of his success.
In January of 1976 I decided to leave college and work for a year or so before going back to school. Dad offered me a job with him, and I accepted, all the while thinking it was just a temporary thing. During the conversation that night, I heard another "dad-ism" I will never forget. "Whatever you decide to do in life, do it to the best of your ability, and no one will be able to do it better." (I now do every job with that thought in mind.) When I got my first taste of paperhanging, I was hooked. I told Dad how much I enjoyed it and I started concentrating my efforts on learning all there was to know about the art of paperhanging.
