At the middle of student societies, events, and all around life happenings in St Andrews is The Saint. The Saint is the University's award-winning, top-class, totally independent student newspaper. It's packed full of gripping news stories, fantastic features, riveting reviews, all the latest sports reports plus a scandalous gossip page detailing who's been snogging/getting naked with who, where, when and for how long. Quite simply, if you want to get informed about student life in St Andrews, you can't afford to go without your fortnightly fix of The Saint.
There are two main things that make The Saint different from the average student rag. Firstly, it's totally self-sufficient - it receives no funding from any source whatsoever, relying only on sales and advertising revenue to get by. Although this means the paper has to scrape by on a tiny budget, it gives us the freedom to write what we want about who we want - you know that what you read in the Saint isn't toeing any party lines.
Most student newspapers in the UK are funded either by the university's Students' Union or the university itself. This allows them to buy lots of computers with professional-quality programmes and keep up to date with the latest technology. The Saint isn't like that. It's made on three average Apple Macs with standard desktop publishing software and a couple of scanners.
