Semantic the band was formed in 1999 by Clinton Cimring and Adam Wynick. Both founders are originally from South Africa. In 2002 Clinton Cimring left Semantic to join the US Marines. He then went on to finish several college degrees including a PhD and founded one of the largest internet marketing companies in the United States. All the while Adam continued to stay true to the music. In 2010 the two reunited through a chance meeting.
