You've arrived! Our relaxing island is "French Provence with a Swedish touch," as St. Barts has been governed peacefully by both France and Sweden for more than two centuries.
By day, visitors and tourists to St. Barths enjoy the warm, tropical weather and shopping in the duty-free port town of Gustavia, named in honor of King Gustav of Sweden, which is like an informal, tropical version of the Champs-Elys⁄es in Paris. Gustavia offers fashionable clothing from Hermes, Sonja Rykiel and Ralph Lauren, and fine jewelry of the highest quality, such as Cartier, and special items normally unavailable outside of Paris, such as exquisitely patterned fabrics by Manuel Canovas from the Left Bank.
