Description
Birds of Paradise St. Croix is hosted by Margarita Hutchison, who previously owned Villas Margarita, in the foothills of Puerto Rico's lush rainforest area of Luquillo, and her husband of just a year, Dan Odell, a long-time resident of St. Croix. Margarita is becoming known for her warmth and enthusiasm, expert advice on what to see and do, her knowledge of tropical trees and plants, and her love for the sea, as well as her Tropical Scottish Scones, fabulous meals, and caring welcome extended to all her guests from around the world. She devotes herself to helping guests' vacation dreams come true and her extensive tropical garden and herb collections. She is also the volunteer Coordinator for Member Activities at the St. Croix Environmental Association, and a part-time professor at the University of the Virgin Islands. Prior to moving to the Caribbean nearly ten years ago, she lived in Vermont, where she had a successful counseling practice and taught psychology courses for over 35 years. She was also a gourmet natural foods chef and instructor. Now she delights in helping her guests learn about our island's flora and fauna, or leading them on her Underwater Safari Adventure, which is a tropical fish identification certificate program. Dan is a long-time science teacher on St Croix, where he developed a high school marine biology program, and he is a respected environmentalist, now serving as Education Director of the St. Croix Environmental Association. He is a Presidential Teacher of the Year award winner, and he loves guiding nature study adventures for both kids and adults. He also teaches occasionally at the University of the Virgin Islands.
