Description
Suncoast Basset Rescue is a not-for-profit, volunteer effort that rescues Basset Hounds from abusive, abandoned and unwanted situations just for the love of the breed. Our organization gives bassets a second chance to live, as they were intended as someone’s best animal friend. Our rescue efforts began in 1997 with two volunteers and help from the Suncoast Basset Hound Club of Tampa, Inc. We have rescued over 1300 bassets since then. Today, Suncoast Basset Rescue Inc is a 501c(3), not-for-profit organization , which exists solely on donations.
Where do the dogs come from? Rescued bassets are from pounds, shelters, humane societies, are strays whose owners cannot be found or are relinquished by owners who no longer want them. Bassets are given up for a variety of reasons. It may be due to changing lifestyles, the economy, allergies , and lack of responsibility of owners who no longer want them.. Sometimes they are given up because they were barking frequently, asking merely for attention that they were not receiving. At times, they are only hours from death. We do our best to keep that from happening.
What do we do for the bassets? Suncoast Basset Rescue takes these orphaned bassets into foster care, where they are loved and cared for until permanent, forever homes are found. Suncoast provides veterinary care, which includes vaccinations, spaying and neutering, heartworm prevention, flea and tick prevention and good old TLC.
