About Civil Air Patrol

Civil Air Patrol is the Auxiliary of the United States Air Force. Founded on December 1, 1941, we are an all-volunteer force comprised of people from every background and of all ages. Our three main missions, given to us by our U.S. Congressional charter, are Emergency Services, Cadet Programs, and Aerospace Education.

We perform essential Search and Rescue functions for missing aircraft, aircraft emergency beacons, disaster relief, aerial reconnaissance, and more. In addition, our Cadet Program aids youths from 12-18 years of age learn and experience some of the best opportunities available! These opportunities include extensive leadership training, scholarships, national activities such as flight academy, international exchanges, search and rescue schools, music academy, and more. We also aim to educate the public on matters of aerospace and aviation.

You don't need to be a pilot or a military retiree to join. Our membership is open to all U.S. citizens from age 12 on upward. Our members wear the United States Air Force uniforms with our distinctive CAP insignia, and carry out missions essential to our civil defense and safety. There is room for people from all walks of life with all sorts of interest, from professionals in medical or law fields to those with interest in radio communication, public affairs, education, and more.
