Description
The Chronic Pain Group is a specialised organization, using an evidence-based approach to helping people living with chronic non-cancer pain get back to living. We aim to create a paradigm shift in the way current rehabilitation culture is applied to people in pain, based on an understanding of the multifactorial nature of pain.
We empathize with and empower our clients to make appropriate choices about their lifestyle. This approach challenges the basis for much of the commonly acceptable "pain management" approaches used in the treatment of long term pain, such as long term symptomatic treatment targeting an injury, rather than dealing with the multifactorial effects of pain on one's lifestyle.
We are not a pain management clinic as is commonly understood in the biomedical arena. We do not employ doctors, nurses or anaesthetists. We do employ clinical psychologists and exercise physiologists. We do run some programs in one to one format, and some in classroom format. Frequently sessions are held inclusive of family members. We encourage the rehabilitation team to be part of the pain rehabilitation process.
