Hello everyone! My name is Tiffany Williams. I am a 17 year old Senior in High School. I am very active in the NJROTC program at my school. Each year my NJROTC unit receives a distinguished unit award and this year we are recognized as one of the best JROTC units in the United States. I have achieved high honor roll and in most academic courses I am ahead of my class. I have worked hard at everything I do in life and I am looking forward to the successful life that lies ahead of me. I first stumbled upon hedgehogs when my little Gumball was given to me by a friend. She was purchased at a Flea Market. I have no idea what kind of life she had before me but now she is spoiled. I became very intrigued with the beauty of the hedgehog.
I noticed that my local pet store had a hedgehog. I just had to get him or at least I was told it was a him. I got "Sugar Daddy" home and one week later I discovered she was not a "Sugar Daddy". So the name no longer was appropriate. Well I started out breeding with a whopping 3 hedgehogs, one of which was my gumball that never has and never will be bred. 35 days later I was woke up at 3 o'clock in the morning with the words, "Tiffany little peeps, little peeps!" My mother was very ecstatic. I stood quietly next to the cage and sure enough I heard the tell tail peeps of new born baby hedgehogs. I was jumping for joy. Just a few hours later the new mom started carrying her babies around in her mouth. She even tried to push one baby out of the cage. Like anyone faced with a scary situation I didn't know what to do. The first thing that came to mind was that these babies were going to die if I didn't get some help. I ran and got on the computer. I just knew there was someone that could help. Within 10 minutes another local breeder, Jeanne Stanoch of Pickyhedgies, called me and walked me through the process of calming my new mom. She helped save the 4 beautiful babies. I felt very privileged and scared when I got to hold my first baby that was only a few hours old.
I have always had a love for animals. I wanted to bring home every cat, dog and bird and the list just goes on and on. Even now we have many animals in our home. Hedgehogs have brought a new type of love into out home. Caring for my hedgehogs not only creates a fun and unique way to pass the time but they have really tightened the family bonds. I have a great deal of help caring for my hedgehogs from my entire family. I do not know what I would do without my father who is on the USDA license with me, my mother who takes the dirty job of cleaning the wheels and my aunt who runs me to the vet's office. Without my family I do not know how I could be this successful. I also have to give special thanks to Jeanne Stanoch of Pickyhedgies . She has helped me through all the rough spots of starting out.
