About Us

Millions of people across the Mideast are denied basic rights. With new pockets of activism bubbling across the region, it is time for Americans of conscience to join with Middle East reformers and amplify the call for civil rights.

The Hands Across the Mideast Support Alliance (HAMSA) is founded in the belief that Americans from across the spectrum must unite to demand guaranteed civil rights for all in the Mideast. Americans can leverage an abundance of liberty to hold Mideast leaders accountable and assist indigenous reformers. HAMSA is non-sectarian and appeals to all people of conscience. Inspired by the American civil rights movement, we are committed to non-violence.

HAMSA is an international civil rights initiative of the American Islamic Congress, a 501c3 non-profit organization. The American Islamic Congress promotes interfaith tolerance and mobilizes American Muslims - as well as all Americans of conscience - to stand for individual rights across the Muslim world. HAMSA works to bridge activist efforts in America and the Middle East, partnering with indigenous civic groups like the Tharwa Project, a minority rights organization established in Damascus, and the Ibn Khaldun Center, a civil rights think-tank based in Cairo. HAMSA is non-sectarian and appeals to all people of conscience.
