Good question! Since childhood I’ve always been fascinated by nature and the creatures we share this earth with. My favorite was (and still is) the turtle, the Eastern Box Turtle to be exact. Often I would find these elusive creatures roaming through the woods alongside my house or much to my father’s disdain, eating the tomatoes in our backyard garden. Nevertheless, these slow and awkward looking "trespassers" became welcome visitors to our home.
Most intriguing however, is that these creatures have survived and adapted to their environment. History is full of stories and legends relating to turtles and man’s relationship with them. Tales of how they have been here since the “beginning of time” and often being the main character of many creation myths. They have been considered sacred in many lands and cultures throughout history including our own Native American history.
