- Dear Mr. Estes is a book being written by Vern Estes about the founding of Estes Industries by Vernon and Gleda Estes. The book's title comes from the use of letters from our mail order customers to begin each chapter. These letters from young rocketeers asked questions and shared with us their interesting and uniques rocketry experienes. The book will cover how Estes Industries began its mail order operation in Denver, then moved to Penrose Colorado in 1961, which soon become known as the Model Rocket Capitol of the World. Contrubutions to this site are solicited by those who were involved in model rocketry during these early years. This site provides an opportunity for rocketeers to relay interesting glimpses of their own experience with model rocketry (and how it impacted their future) as additional background material for the book.
