I have been making re-born babies for over 5 years now. I have four of my own children, Zoe age 14, Tilly age 7, Jude age 4, and our latest edition is Noah only 4 months.So this is a way that I can have as many babies as I like without all those dirty nappies. My dolls are very collectable and sought after. Making re-borns all started when I bought my first berenguer re-born, I fell in love with him. I decided to have a go at making another berenguer baby for myself, My first baby took two months to make. I enjoyed making him so much I decided to make another, then another and so it has carried on.
I have spent many hours perfecting my technique to make the babies skin, hair and body look and feel life like. I root most of my babies hair with mohair, this takes many hours but the result is more realistic and the hair can be brushed and styled. Some of my babies hair is rooted one strand at a time to look like a newborn scalp. This takes over 12 hours to root a complete scalp.
The Baby’s heads and limbs are painted using my own unique special techniques, this is done inside and outside. The eyes are changed to be more realistic. And the head and limbs are weighted with a special sand and plastic beans. This helps the legs and arms to flop like a real baby. The baby’s nails are painted to give a just-clipped look. The nose is opened so the baby can breath. Eyelashes are applied
