Title

Warm Earth Organic Gardening

Description

The magazine is edited by Liz Sinnamon. Originally from Victoria, she moved to Queensland in 1981. She has therefore experienced gardening in a cooler, temperate climate zone and in the sub-tropics. Liz has been a gardener all her life and about twenty years ago became a convert to organic gardening. She has an incredibly varied gardening experience, having lived on small town blocks in two states and for several years on small acreage in the Sunshine Coast hinterland where she was able to achieve self-sufficiency in food.

When Liz moved to Queensland she discovered there was not much information about gardening in tropical and sub-tropical climates. Most gardening books and magazines were produced in the cooler, southern areas of Australia. Having learned from a decade of successes and failures she decided to start a magazine for gardeners in sub-tropical and tropical areas. The first issue of Warm Earth magazine was launched in 1992 with distribution in Queensland only. However, readers in other Australian states wanted information about growing organically and in 1995 Warm Earth went nationwide with a broader focus. Today it is available in newsagencies throughout Australia and New Zealand. Liz has written and published three books. Organic Gardening In Tropical Climates was published in 1986, followed by Growing Fruit, Nuts and Herbs Organically in 1988. Her latest book - A Goat In My Bedroom - was published in 2005. Descriptions of these books can be found on the Bookstore page.

A team of feature writers produce articles on a regular basis. Warwick Tidswell has gardened all his life. He commenced his hobby in New Zealand, but moved to Queensland in 1988. Like Liz, he is experienced in gardening in a variety of climates. Warwick has a particular interest in environmental issues, preserving our eco-systems and the continuing survival of our native flora and fauna. He often writes on these subjects. When he is not gardening or writing, Warwick looks after the Warm Earth website, assists Liz with magazine photography, administration and the many housekeeping tasks that go on behind the scenes at Warm Earth.
