Hawkeye Wildlife Organization - rescue and rehabilitation of injured and orphaned wild animals in Iowa
Description
We are each individually licensed by the State's Department of Natural Resources(DNR) for the purpose of raising orphans for release or for repairing the injuries to adults, and releasing them when their rehabilitation is complete.
The DNR Officers across the state use wildlife rehabilitators when an animal is located that needs medical or maternal attention, instead of destroying it. We care for many animals each year, and at the end of the year we submit reports to the DNR, accounting for what we have done to assist and support wildlife during the year.
We formed the HWO to help us obtain financial relief for all that we need to do for the never-ending stream of newcomers. Many need medical attention or supplies. All need food. Materials for enclosures also cost money. We are all volunteers who spend money for these things out of our own pockets. With our newly formed group, we are now able to apply for grants to help us with the expenses.
