Description
Woodbridge Academy is a unique school in Lexington, Kentucky; we create programs that meet the needs of students who learn differently because of dyslexia and other language-based difficulties, ADD/ADHD, and other learning problems. Using as a base, a traditional curriculum, we adapt its presentation to the learning style and developmental level of our children. The programs are presented in a multi-sensory format within a technology rich environment. Flexible schedules aid in maintaining attention and concentration; and, teaching the curriculum through art allows the students to express their accomplishments in a variety of ways.
Students' weaknesses are strengthened in laboratory classes and one-one instruction. Structured phonetic approaches, organizational techniques, study strategies and personal drill and practice help remediate the academic difficulties and strengthen the basic skills of the students. Stressing visual and hands-on pedagogy in the regular classes coupled with individual attention and feedback allows the them to continue learning the concepts of the traditional curriculum at the same time.
In order to develop mature individuals who become active citizens, social skills are directly taught and programs are used to develop community service and involvement. Students attending Woodbridge also learn the importance of fitness, discipline and cooperation by taking part in the many projects, field trips and community activities throughout the school year.
