Whittle Shortline RR Home

Description

Whittle Shortline Railroad was born in 1996 quite by accident. My wife bought me a cutoff saw under the pretext of a Christmas present but her real motivation was for me to make crown molding for our home. Not being a carpenter, the saw sat in its carton unopened for two years. Finally, she told me to either use it for something or she would take it back. Not wanting to lose a good though unused tool, I began to make wooden toy trains. The toys were such a hit with the family and neighborhood kids that I began to make more, and more, and more.

I soon took over our two car garage, our deck and several other work spaces in our home. Soon retailers began to call wanting my toys and the WSRR was born! My son, Brian, joined me in 1997 followed by my daughter, Colleen, in 1999. By the way, my wife is still waiting for her crown molding.

By the Spring of 1999 we had completely filled the house with toy trains including all the dust and clutter that goes with it. My wife decided that it was time for me, the train, and the kids to hit the road (railroad) and give her house back. After some interesting "discussions" over the dinner table, we all became enlightened and agreed that it was time to move. We knew that there was only one place to put it and that was The Frisco Hotel in Valley Park, Missouri; about 10 minutes from our home.
