Title
Welcome to Yellow Dog Records, home of authentic roots music celebrating the American musical heritage
Description
Based in Memphis, TN, Yellow Dog Records was founded in 2002 with the goal of cultivating the American musical heritage. The label features artists who emphasize innovative approaches to authentic American musical roots traditions — Blues, Jazz, Soul, and Americana styles. By providing support for recording, production, promotion and distribution, Yellow Dog Records brings this vital music to new and wider audiences.
The first project released by Yellow Dog Records was the Bluff City Backsliders self-titled CD, released in Memphis in June 2002. 2003 saw national releases of Big Lonesome Radio, the solo debut from Mark Lemhouse which was nominated for two W.C. Handy awards, as well as albums from acoustic Americana/Blues artist William Lee Ellis. Also earning Handy nominations were 2004 releases from Memphis soul-jazz powerhouse The Bo-Keys, featuring several veterans from the Stax label, and from blues and boogie legend Big Joe Duskin. 2005 will see new releases by Chris Cotton, Calvin Newborn, Terry Robb, Mark Lemhouse, Mary Flower, and others.
“These guys are making music the way it ought to be, focusing on timeless quality and soul instead of following the latest trends... merging old sounds with new ideas to create uniquely captivating sounds.”
