The California State Summer School for the Arts (CSSSA) is an intensive 4-week residential program for talented and motivated high school students. CSSSA’s mission is to nurture the next generation of artists and arts professionals in animation, creative writing, dance, film & video, music, theater and visual arts. Admission to the program is highly competitive and offered primarily to 520 California high school students. Students from outside of California may also apply of which twenty are admitted each year. Students who successfully complete the program are designated California Arts Scholars and are acknowledged by the Governor’s medal- lion for the State’s highest distinction for artistically talented youth. Over the past 24 years, CSSSA has trained more than 12,000 young artists from all 58 counties in California, making it one of the nation’s premier summer arts institutes.
